Comparative study of 12 thread shapes of dental implant designs: a three-dimensional finite element analysis

چکیده
The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal thread shape for an experimental cylinder implant. Twelve three-dimensional finite element models with an implant of different thread shape were created: 1mm, 2mm, and 3mm square designs (S-1, S-2, and S-3); 90, 60, and 30 V-shaped designs (V-1, V-2, and V-3); 45, 30, and 15 buttress designs (B-1, B-2, and B-3); 45, 30, and 15 reverse buttress designs (R-1, R-2, andR-3). The stress distributions and the maximum Von Mises stresses in cortical and cancellous bone of all models were compared under axial and buccolingual loads. It was found that model S-2 in square design, model V-3 in V-shaped design, and model B-3 in buttress design showed the best stress distribution respectively. And the stress distribution in models R-1, R-2, and R-3 were as good as those in models S-2, V-3, and B-3.The results imply that S-2, V-3, B-3, R-1, R-2, and R-3 thread shapes all appear to be suitable for use in a cylinder implant. And the wide top angle thread should be avoided in a cylinder implant.

Evaluating the impact of length and thread pitch on the stress distribution in dental implants and surrounding bone using finite element method
longevity of osseointegrated implants are intensely influenced by biomechanical factors. Control of these factors prevents mechanical complications, which include fracture of screws, components, or materials veneering the framework. In this study, the impact of length and threads pitch of dental implants on the stress distribution and maximum Von Mises stress in implant-abutment complex and ja...
متن کاملFinite Element Analysis of Different Hip Implant Designs along with Femur under Static Loading Conditions
Background: The hip joint is the largest joint after the knee, which gives stability to the whole human structure. The hip joint consists of a femoral head which articulates with the acetabulum. Due to age and wear between the joints, these joints need to be replaced with implants which can function just as a natural joint. Since the early 19th century, the hip joint arthroplasty has evolved, a...
متن کاملEffect of Abutment Angulation and Material on Stress and Strain Distributions in Premaxillary Bone: A Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis
Background and Aim: Dental implants with angled abutments are often inserted in the anterior maxillary region due to the status of the residual ridge and aesthetic considerations. The purpose of this study was to assess stress and strain distributions in the premaxillary bone around dental implants by means of finite element analysis (FEA). Materials and Methods: Four three-dimensional (3D) fi...
متن کاملInfluence of three different implant thread designs on stress distribution: A three-dimensional finite element analysis
PURPOSE Clinical success of implant prosthodontics is dependent in part upon the type of implant thread design. The selection of implant thread design plays an important role in the outcome of the treatment. This study was undertaken to evaluate the pattern of stress distribution using a finite element analysis; hence, the area which would be bearing maximum load for a given design would be arr...
متن کاملEffect of Abutment Height Difference on Stress Distribution in Mandibular Overdentures: A Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis
Background and Aim: Implant-supported overdentures are a treatment option for edentulous patients. One of the important factors in determining the prognosis of overdenture treatment is to control the distribution of stress in the implant-bone and attachment complex. This study assessed the effect of implant abutment height difference on stress distribution in mandibular overdentures. Materials...
